The idea is old, the realisation new: why not launch a boat on the market that can sail and run at very high speeds under power? In fact, the requirements for the hybrid boat are contradictory:
A flat underwater hull is desirable for a lot of speed under motor, but this is detrimental to the sailing characteristics.
Designer Marc-Oliver von Ahlen and boat dealer Helmut Thomsen have ventured a modern interpretation of the theme.
The trick: a wide trim tab, which is lowered under the machine, changes the shape of the tail. In addition, the two rudder blades are then folded down.
Naturally, the ship is heavily motorised. An outboard motor with an output of 50 hp is designed to propel the ship to speeds well above the 10-knot mark. The two realised further goals with the boat: A raised saloon provides standing height in the saloon, it can be trailered, has a variable draught and, in addition to the tiller, has a steering position on the superstructure for motoring. A jib device allows easy positioning and laying of the rig.
YACHT tested the seven-and-a-half metre long boat. The comprehensive report, in which the two competitors MacGregor 26 and Odin 820 Classic are also presented in detail, will be published in Issue 24 - now on newsstands.
